Description
How to Use:
- Ensure that both surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free from dust or debris. Smooth out any irregularities and make sure they fit together perfectly.
- Before you begin, ensure you are working in a well-ventilated area. Contact cement emits fumes that can be harmful if inhaled in largeĀ quantities. Open windows or use fans to keep the air flowing.
- Apply the Cement using a brush or roller. Apply a thin, even coat of contact cement to both surfaces you want to bond. Make sure to cover the entire area that will come in contact with each other.
- Wait for the solvent to evaporate. The time required will depend on the manufacturer’s instructions, but typically it takes around 10-15 minutes. The cement should feel dry to the touch.
- Align and Press the Surfaces Together
- To ensure a strong bond and remove any air pockets, use a J-roller to apply even pressure across the entire surface.
- While the bond is initially strong, allowing the contact cement to cure for 24 hours is recommended. During this time, the bond will reach its maximum strength.
- Clean any excess contact cement using mineral spirits or the solvent the manufacturer recommends. Make sure to do this before the cement cures completely.
- Always wear protective gloves and eye gear when working with contact cement. Avoid skin contact and keep it away from open flames or ignition sources.
